Abstract

When we talk about "special needs children," we mean kids who require help right away because of things like disabilities, health issues, or emotional difficulties. The field of psychology has made significant contributions to our knowledge, our ability to explain, anticipate, and manage, and our capacity to find and implement solutions for children with special needs. Collaboration with other players in a child's bio-psycho-social system is where psychology can really make a difference. Children, families, communities, schools, and other professionals are all part of the system. The contributions of psychologists are most useful in this setting within a multi-disciplinary team. Psychologists use psychological theories to learn about, explain, anticipate, manage, and remedy the challenges faced by children with special needs. Applied psychologists rely heavily on theories to make sense of, explain, anticipate, and manage the challenges faced by children with special needs.
